Adult Work Camp: Back Bay Mission in Biloxi, Mississippi
Hosted By Grace Congregational Church, Two Rivers, Wisconsin
Depart April 19, 2008 and Return April 27, 2008
In August of 2005, Hurricane Katrina destroyed 65,000 homes and severely damaged another 64,000 homes. Back Bay Mission has been social-service agency related to the United Church of Christ that receives work crews to effectively respond. Work crews perform a wide range of tasksfrom mold abatement to roofing to installing sheet rock to electrical and plumbing work. Once Back Bay Mission selects a home to restore, they commit to completing the project, an effort that requires many weeks and several different work teams. Back Bay Mission has received grants from the City of Biloxi and the City of Gulfport to restore the homes of homeowners who lack the financial resources to complete the projects on their own.
